Prescriptive Conflict Blind Spots
Alongside this Field Note is the deepest register in the library, and the second time I take a Snapshot's top line and make it the blind spot. Take the fact that I did it as the point rather than the error — I explain why in #28.
THE RABIES SHOTS
A few years ago a bat bit me in the house. The doctor and the nurse were very clear: take the shots or you can die. If you contract rabies and you have had them, you are protected. If you have not, it is one hundred per cent fatal. At this layer, not taking the remedies is gambling with a fatal flaw. What is all the effort worth, if it is only success?
Four, and a Fifth I Should Not Have

Remedies for Maladies — THE RED LINE. You can achieve a once-in-a-generation level of success and set your entire world of meaning on fire, and people will forget your name no matter how many statues you build. My dying breaths will not be spent contemplating my summits — that would be cold comfort. So my red line is the reality that these are non-negotiable, and remembering that for a great many people they are extremely negotiable. They want to talk about it at the last minute. God bless you, but what do you think you are going to do in twenty minutes when you cannot breathe?
Conflict Resolution — checked, not deadly. Serious, but I have some muscle here: a career in peace and reconciliation.
Serenity — red line light. Brutally hard. Get away from me, serenity prayer. It is so close to a second red line that I treat it as one in all but name — and I am not allowed two, so I pick the one you could die from.
Integrity — A SHRUG. I work extremely hard at it and have no gift for it, which makes it two-plus-two. You can dig into it yourself.
Clarity — A SHRUG. A different thing here than in My Room, and the same shrug.
All four of mine were rabies shots rather than flu shots. That is serendipitous, because it makes me an authority: nobody has more rabies shots than me, since there are only four and I have all four.

By the end of this, you will know why this layer has no return on investment in the success column. You cannot earn it and you cannot buy it. That is the point of it.
